Here is what nobody tells you about the American food system.

The science to fix it has existed since 2009.

Peer-reviewed. Published. Adopted by the national dietary guidelines of Brazil, Uruguay, Ecuador, Peru, France, Belgium, Israel, and Canada.

But not here. Not in the country where 60% of the food supply is ultra-processed. Not where the food industry spends billions making sure you can't tell the difference between food and a chemistry experiment in a wrapper.

So I built the tool that changes that.

First, the Science. Because You Deserve to Know Where This Comes From.

NOVA is not a diet. It's not a trend. It's not something I invented.

NOVA is a peer-reviewed food classification framework developed by Dr. Carlos Augusto Monteiro and colleagues at the Center for Epidemiological Research in Nutrition and Health (NUPENS), University of Sรฃo Paulo, Brazil, beginning around 2009.

It classifies food by one criterion that matters above all others: how processed is it?

Not how many calories. Not how much fat. Not whether it has a heart-healthy logo slapped on the box by the company that made it.

How. Processed.

NOVA has four groups:

  • Group 1 โ€” Unprocessed or minimally processed foods. Eggs. Oats. Frozen vegetables. Fish. Fruit. This is food.
  • Group 2 โ€” Processed culinary ingredients. Olive oil. Salt. Flour. Things used to prepare food.
  • Group 3 โ€” Processed foods. Canned beans. Cheese. Cured meats. Made with Group 1 and 2 ingredients, modified for preservation.
  • Group 4 โ€” Ultra-processed foods. Industrial formulations. Ingredient lists that read like a chemistry textbook. Designed in a lab to override your brain's fullness signals. This is not food. This is a product engineered to be eaten past the point of hunger.

The research is not ambiguous. Ultra-processed food is linked to obesity, Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression, and early death. The science is there. The problem is you couldn't use it at the grocery store.

Until now.

Why I Built This. And Who I Am.

My name is Dr. Suzanne R. Brock. You might know me as Dr. Seuzz.

I have a doctoral degree in marketing.

That's not an accident. That's the whole point.

I spent my career studying how products are marketed to consumers. How language is engineered to persuade. How packaging is designed to deceive. How "natural," "healthy," "clean," and "wholesome" became words that mean absolutely nothing โ€” because the food industry spent decades hollowing them out.

I know this playbook. I know it from the inside.

In January 2026, I read about the new inverted food pyramid. It stopped me cold. I went deeper. I discovered it was built on NOVA โ€” the peer-reviewed classification framework from the University of Sรฃo Paulo. And then I had one thought:

There is no tool that makes this useful for real people.

Not a practical one. Not one you could use at the grocery store. Not one that could look at a barcode and tell you the truth about what's inside in plain English.

NOVA existed in academic journals. In Brazilian dietary guidelines. In research papers that nobody at 6pm in a grocery store aisle was ever going to read.

So I built Rock The New Food Pyramid. To take the most important food science of our generation and put it in your pocket. Plain English. Under ten seconds. At the shelf, in the recipe, at the dinner table.

Meet Gator. Your AI-Powered Nutrition Expert.

Before I tell you what the app does โ€” I need to tell you about Gator.

Gator is not a chatbot. Gator is not a FAQ page with a face on it.

Gator is your AI-powered nutrition expert, built on peer-reviewed science, trained to answer real questions from real people who are trying to feed their families better in a confusing, loud, algorithmically-manipulated food landscape.

Ask Gator why Red 40 is still legal in the US when it's banned in the EU. Ask him what's actually in "natural flavor." Ask him whether oat milk is NOVA Group 1 or Group 4. Ask him what to eat when you have $40 left until Friday and three kids to feed.

He will tell you. In plain English. With the science behind it.

Gator is what sets Rock The New Food Pyramid apart from every other nutrition app on the market. Other apps give you a score and leave you standing in the aisle. Gator gives you a conversation.

The Scanner. Not Just the Product. Every Single Ingredient.

Here is where most food apps stop.

You scan a barcode. You get a score. You think: okay, this product is a 4. Ultra-processed. Bad.

But you don't know why. You don't know which ingredient pushed it into the red. You don't know if the problem is the first ingredient or the fifteenth.

Rock The New Food Pyramid doesn't stop at the product.

Scan a barcode. You get the NOVA score for the product. And then โ€” you get the NOVA score for each individual ingredient.

Every. Single. One.

You'll see exactly what's driving the score. You'll know whether it's the emulsifier, the artificial flavor, the modified starch, or the colorant that no other country allows in food marketed to children.

This is not a convenience feature. This is informed consent at the ingredient level.

The Recipe Amendment Tool. Nobody Else Does This.

You found a recipe you love. Your family will eat it. It's a real win.

But you're gluten-free. Or your daughter is dairy-free. Or your husband needs low-FODMAP. Or you're pescatarian. Or your kid has a nut allergy.

Most apps shrug. Most apps say: good luck, here's a different recipe.

Rock The New Food Pyramid amends the recipe for you.

Not a different recipe. The same recipe โ€” adapted for your dietary preference. With substitutions that preserve the dish, the texture, the flavor profile, and the whole-food integrity of the ingredients.

And we don't support two or three dietary preferences. We support sixteen.

Gluten-free. Lactose-free. Vegan. Vegetarian. Pescatarian. Paleo. Keto. Low-FODMAP. Nut-free. Egg-free. Soy-free. And more.

One recipe. Your preference. The app does the work.

Nobody else does this. We do.

The Food Analyzer. Because Knowing the Problem Isn't Enough.

You scanned your go-to snack. It's a NOVA Group 4. Ultra-processed. Now what?

You're not stuck.

The Food Analyzer doesn't just tell you what's wrong with what you're holding. It tells you what to get instead. Specific, accessible, realistic alternatives โ€” foods that give you the same satisfaction with a NOVA score that won't make Gator wince.

You don't leave the app feeling defeated. You leave with a plan.

The Community. 16 Rooms. Your People Are Here.

Changing how you eat is hard alone.

Inside Rock The New Food Pyramid, Tetra is our community platform โ€” 16 dedicated chat rooms organized around dietary preferences. Whatever your path, your people are already in the room.

Real conversations. Real questions. Real people who are navigating the same confusing food landscape you are.

The Bottom Line.

The science exists. It has existed since 2009.

Dr. Monteiro and his colleagues at the University of Sรฃo Paulo gave us NOVA. A framework that cuts through every marketing claim, every misleading label, every "heart-healthy" sticker on a product that would make a nutritionist cry.

I built Rock The New Food Pyramid to make that science yours.

Not buried in a journal. Not locked behind a nutrition degree.

Yours. In your pocket. In ten seconds. At the grocery store, in the recipe, at the dinner table.

Because the food industry has had the advantage long enough.
